An additional mobile carrier can also be used to move the product from the hot zone to ambient temperature exposure. This allows the horizontal type to perform both traditional hot and cold two-zone testing and three-zone testing (cold, hot and environmental exposure).

The dual-task design has two hot zones and one cold zone. The cold zone is located between the two hot zones. The dual-task design has two product baskets, and one of the two product baskets is always in the cold zone. This design uses the box's cooling system more efficiently, increasing productivity over standard thermal shock designs.

Thermal shock chambers can subject test specimens to a wide temperature range with rapid temperature change rates. The horizontal test chamber has independent cold and hot controlled temperature zones (chambers). The test sample automatically switches between two temperature ranges, generating severe thermal stress.
